I biked along the Rillito today and enjoyed the cool air. Most of the bushes in the wash are bend over with debris backed up behind them from the force of the water. Grass is coming up where I haven't seen grass in years. It is still very humid but bearable without the triple digit temperatures.

The mall was full. I think people aren't sure what to do with all this rain. There are a lot people with only swamp coolers also and when it's this humid they just don't help. Ten months out of the year they are fantastic, but right now, they are worthless. A swamp cooler blows air through a web pad which cools off the air. When the air is as dry as it usually is it works wonderfully but when the air is humid it's no good. The dry air is why in the desert you feel cold on a hot day when you first get out of the pool. The air is sucking the water off you so fast you can feel cold.

Swamp coolers are great inventions, though. Until they were invented Tucson had no chance of developing beyond a dirty little desert town. With the swamp cooler people could stand to live here. Even many of the small stores use only swamp coolers. I like them because you can, must, keep a window or door open slightly for them to work best and the air stays fresher than with an air conditioner.

I tried reading today but I can't concentrate on most books. They just seem so boring. Have I decided that I'm tired of being serious or am I just losing my ability to concentrate? Several years ago I realized that there were very few fiction books that I bothered to read all the way through. I just find them either stupid or boring. I don't think I'm losing my mind, I just think that I don't want to bother with "improving" myself anymore.

I enjoy watching what's going on around me more than I enjoy reading. I spend many years of my life hiding away in a book because it was more interesting than life and safer but now I just want to look at the world around me. I've always wanted to travel more and enjoyed the traveling I did and now I realize that it's because I'm curious, a snoopy old broad.

I think this is why I enjoy magazines, because I like to find out what's going on. Everything that's going on not just a particular field. I like to read about strange things and weird things and all the people that enjoy them.
