We've left Monica and JFK now and are back to hate speech (from both sides) about the budget. The question for many of us is who's lies are we going to believe. It's like the quote "lies, damn lies and statistics". I don't think in millions of dollars, much less trillions. I just know we are spending way too much money and I don't even know what for. I look at individual programs and they are each just a fraction of that amount. I know there are people with nothing and I know there are a lot of people who are scared about how they are going to pay medical bills and such but we've got to call a halt somewhere. I'm reminded of the dying Roman empire when they gave the people bread and circuses with fights to the death between gladiators and had little children torn apart by lions. Is there nothing that politicians won't stoop too to get votes. it doesn't seem to depend very much on political affiliation. Now we are kept quiet with more humane goodies fed to our paranoia be it terror that someone will "make" their child gay to fear that we will die in the gutter if the government (big brother) doesn't take care of us. We are told that we aren't moral enough or capable enough or strong enough, wow, that sounds like what women were told for so long and because we didn't buy it we had the feminist revolution. So, why are all the feminists letting the government tell everyone what we heard women shouldn't be told. Does it make it ok if everyone is told they are dumb and stupid and incapable of taking care of themselves? Help those who fall through the cracks, take care of common goods such as education, libraries, roads and such, but don't tell us that we can't take care of ourselves and then take our money so the government can take care of us. It's enough to make a person a libertarian. I will always be grateful for the help I received with daycare when my children were small but I worked my butt off to not need it. Now we're told that we shouldn't feel like we should try to get off welfare, that it's just too traumatic for us to try to take care of ourselves.
