Wednesday, August 18 1999I was so frustrated yesterday. At work an access database that everyone uses all day didn't work. It gave the "illegal action" error and would close down. The day before it had worked fine. Finally I copied it to a different name so I could work on it without destroying the original, and it worked. I renamed it to the original name, and it didn't work. Finally, out of frustration, I left it with the new name (the old name plus a 1), but then I had to redo everyone's icons that linked to it. What a pain. I spent all morning doing this. Then I had to let another department that links to our tables know to redo their links. They use the same program but link to ours because they are on a higher version of access. A few hours later the lady who was doing this called me back in frustration because her links wouldn't work. Since she is across campus, I finally found a computer in our building that had the higher version and was able to get in their program and redo the links. This was late afternoon and their department had not been able to use the program all day and my department couldn't use it all morning and I was so frustrated. How could just changing the name make that much of a difference? I just know what I've learned by trial and error and I couldn't find anything in the books that explained it. Then I got home and was going to scan some pictures and found that I couldn't save to my zip drive. I uninstalled and reinstalled my software several times and it did not work. By this time it was late and I went to bed more frustrated and didn't even write my journal. There have been times in the last couple weeks that I just wanted to get a new computer and quit having to mess with my computer. Unfortunately, I can't just get a new computer or new program at work and I know so little about the programs that my ex-supervisor worked on. I sometimes think I know just enough to get in trouble. Oh, well, tomorrow is a new day and I am right now downloading new software for my zip drive from their website, so we shall see. Today I played catch up at work and felt better to get my desk cleaned off but at the back of my mind I know I have to find out why that program quit working.
