Saturday, August 28, 1999I ran around all day running errands and shopping and I am pooped. Here and there on my bike and on foot, and it was hot today and a storm was coming in so the humidity was high. I felt like a wet, hot dishrag when I was done. I found some really nice throw rugs on sale so I'm slowly building up my rugs. This living room is already looking brighter now that more of the grunge beige is getting covered up. I know more and more people who have everyone remove their shoes at the door to keep their place nice but I run around the apartments with bare feet so taking my shoes off wouldn't help much. I enjoy going barefoot but there aren't many places in Tucson where you can go barefoot in the summer and even in the winter most places have thorns. In the apartments I hop from grass to grass but you can't do that across the desert. When I was a child I never wore shoes except when absolutely required (school, church and weather). Well I tried to never wear shoes except for when it was necessary but sometimes adults intervened unnecessarily. Most adults have really apalling ideas of when shoes are necessary. I just thought that I don't remember my kids going barefoot all that much and I don't think I made them wear shoes except when absolutely necessary. I can remember going out to where we lived in Mexico. This was a six to eight hour walk, or by horseback, past where we had to leave our car. Now I understand that you can drive all the way out there. Anyway, I always had my shoes off halfway out there. I would go all summer without shoes if I could. It was lovely.
