This was a good day to stay inside. Other than running up to the grocery store early this morning while it was still cool, I've stayed inside all day. It was hot and humid again and even inside with airconditioning on I could feel the humidity and was dripping a few times when I was working.

I rearranged my apartment again. I like it but still have to clean up the edges. I had to do my stretching exercises several times as I could feel my back tightening up. It's not too bad but I'll be stiff tomorrow. That's ok, I don't think it'll spasm and that's what counts. The stiffness will wear off.

I brought my mother's old trunk out of the closet so I could see it. It was brought from Scotland to Australia and then to the US by my grandparents. There's a D on the end that my mother said marked the trunk for Dawson. I had another trunk that my daughter has and it has the D on the end also.

It's covered with fabric that was then painted and then has the black metal bands. The top is curved with wood slats. It's led a hard life so the inside isn't that good. The one my daughter has which is all wood with a flat top still has a nicely finished wood inside. My mother painted them both since they were so shabby so I can't say what the original color was. It's a dark brown now.

I watched The Learning Channel while I worked and they were rerunning the dinosaur series which reminded my that I was part way through "Basin and Range" by John McPhee. This is the second time I've read it and I'm enjoying it all over again. I nearly finished it this evening. It's about the continental drift of the continents and I never can quite keep the various geologic names straight but it's fascinating all the same.

While reading what I've written I noticed that I said grocery store instead of supermarket. I think of a grocery store as a small store, whereas I went to a supermarket, but I've noticed that I still say grocery store in conversation. Another word that is a bit anachronistic is icebox, which I still use, even though the only time I cooled food with ice was while camping.
