Tuesday, October 5, 1999I've been sick today. It started yesterday when I was out of it by the time I got home with a headache, very sore throat and total disinterest in everything. I realized when I started writing this that I hadn't even written a journal entry last night I was so out of it. This morning I woke up with a vicious headache and still a sore throat. I took aspirin and drank coffee and finally went for a walk since that often helps when I have a bad headache. I wandered along without a real clue as to where I was going and walked four miles in all because I couldn't think well enough to even go back home or even catch a bus back home. My headache was still there when I got home, though not as bad, but the sore throat and total lack of ability to think clearly. I was nearly home when someone from work stopped to ask if I wanted a ride and I don't think I was too coherent. I'm sure she wonders if I was on drugs. I spent the morning dozing and reading and dozing and reading. I read three murder mysteries which are fairly easy reading just because I couldn't handle the blare of tv but was too hyper to really relax. I reread two by Elizabeth Linington "Skeletons in the Closet" and "Felony Report". These are two of her police procedurals about the Hollywood police department. She also writes under Lesley Egan and Del Shannon. The Shannon books are about the Los Angeles police department. I enjoy them because they are about all the cases coming into the detective department, homicide and such, and how they are all juggled. They are a little unreal, though, because they show the LA area police departments as pure as the driven, which, we all know is certainly untrue. I think her books are based in the 60s or 70s. I also read "Shallow Grave" by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles. This is one of her Inspector Detective Bill Slider books. She writes good police procedurals also though, unlike Del Shannon, she, and most police procedurals, show them working on only one case at a time, which is probably very unreal. They are good books and she weaves personal and professional life into an interesting story. I'm still very tired this evening and have been dozing off and on. I have a feeling that I'll be home tomorrow again. My headache isn't as bad but my throat is still very sore.
