Saturday, November 13, 1999We were all up bright and early to set up for the craft show. Lauri, my daughter-in-law, Aurora, her sister, and me were the ones who worked the booth but my son and Mary and Brian came to help set up as we had the big tarp shade cover to set up. We had not only Lauri's things to sell but also Mary's but she was going through chemotherapy and had hurt her back so the doctor said she couldn't do anything by stay in bed, though she didn't follow that as well as she should as much as Brian tried to get her to. Mary is the one was got Lauri started at the craft show a couple years ago. We also had some things made by one lady who lived out of town and another who who couldn't be there. Another lady was suppose to bring her things and help which is why they had rented a double space but she not only did not show up but wouldn't even answer the phone. How tacky! Before 10:00 people started coming even though we weren't suppose to sell ahead of time. We were right at the entrance so we had people coming and going. It was fun and we were quite busy. Lauri's things made the most money but the out of town lady had mainly $1.00 to $3.00 items such as tree decorations, so we were busiest selling those. We had quite a variety as Mary made jewelry and decorated shirts and the other person made jewelry, but a very different type. When we had slow times we took turns looking around and there were some amazing things for sale. Some are your basic crafty items such as pastel baby blankets and cute stuff but there were several people who had very beautiful and artistic items. I fell in love with one place that sold wreaths but I couldn't really afford to buy one. They were above and beyond the average wreath that you see and she had not only very innovative christmas wreaths but ones for all occasions. One booth had pots with straw and leather and agates woven through the pot. A woodworker had several very creative bowls made out of carob wood. I don't remember seeing carob wood before but it looks almost smoky. Beautiful! There were a couple jewelry places that had lovely things that I liked. One was a pale green stone (peridot?) set in silver for earrings. I enjoyed working the craft show but it isn't something I would want to do for a living. I think it would get old very fast. Finally we took the tables inside for the evening and went out to eat with Mary and Brian and then to see "Dogma". I thought "Dogma" was great. It will, and has, offended quite a few people in the catholic church but I thought that it showed what true spirituality and religion is as compared to the fossilized product that we're presented with that is layers of human ideas and egos and not much about god. I'm still an atheist, but if I did believe in god, this is the kind of god I would like, well, mostly. There was a lot of killing, and constant vulgarity, and I laughed all the way through. It was very well done. You could never just settle back without getting another assumption turned upside down. God was delightful and just what I would hope her to be.
