Sunday, November 21, 1999Today I did spring cleaning. I know, it's fall, but in Arizona when the weather cools down and I can open the door and window and the sky is a clear blue and the light sparkles, that's when I want to clean house. I even washed my windows, which is not something I do very often. I also cleaned all those little spots on the rug that just seem to appear. I thought it would get better when I children left, but between me and my cat, there are still plenty. I usually try to ignore them so when I do get around to cleaning them, they are well ingrained. I've decided that most of the cleaning tips are for people who actually clean up spots and spills as soon as they occur. When people like me get around to it, it's a pretty iffy proposition, and often the stain is in there for the life of the carpet. I did get up most of the spots, though. The part that always slows me down and often destroys the whole cleaning urge are the little boxes and baskets of little things. The brochure I was going to look at, the swiss army knife that I'm not sure if I should put in the camping or traveling area, the two half eaten rolls of mints, one hair holder, one battery (is it good?), some change, a couple paperclips, a pair of scissors, the ribbon for my printer, some computer disks, a ticket stub, etc., and so forth. I always start reading the brochure, wondering if I should throw out the battery, do I really use my knife more when I travel or camp, or at all, how old are the mints?, and on and on. The big things aren't a problem, but the little things tend to overwhelm me. It seems like I'm always this way. I did the front of the apartment, but I still have the back part to go. My bathroom isn't too bad, but the dressing room collects things and I need to reorganize my closet. It's such a small studio that anything that isn't reasonably organized looks very messy and, since I'm a messy person, even when it's clean my place looks a little messed up. People like me really need a maid. My back is aching a little from all the leaning and such, but I didn't move major furniture so I think it'll be ok. I need to just a little all the time but that's so easy to put off. At least next week is only three days at work.
